🧠 Understanding the Pedagogical Value of Flashcards
Re-reading content doesn't anchor knowledge , active retrieval does. By actively searching for the answer before flipping the card, the learner forces their brain to retrieve the information, which strengthens the memory trace far more effectively than simply re-reading. This is the principle of active recall, one of the most robust mechanisms in learning science.
⚙️ How to Create a Flashcard Session
From your project, go to the end of a module or chapter.
Click "Flashcard session", then hover and click "Edit content".
Add your flashcards: enter the front (the question) and the back (the answer). You can add images to both sides. Change the order of flashcards using the directional arrows, and duplicate or delete them as needed.
Once your cards are ready, go back to the module list, hover over the session, and activate it via the three-dot menu on the right. This same menu also lets you preview the session.
👀 What Does the Learner See?
Flashcard sessions appear at the end of the relevant module.
The learner reads the question, tries to answer from memory, then flips the card to check. They self-assess by indicating whether they answered correctly or not.
💡 Keyboard navigation within a flashcard session is not available.
