⏱️ The Essentials in 3 Minutes

• Why spacing out module distribution strengthens retention and engagement.
• The 4 unlocking modes and which one to choose based on your needs.
• How to configure each mode in a few clicks.
• What the learner sees when facing locked content.

🧠 Understand the Pedagogical Value of Module Locking

Locking modules is not a technical constraint - it is a pedagogical lever to help your learners learn better.

  • Spreading effort over time promotes deeper, more lasting retention (spaced repetition effect).

  • Structuring the learning pace prevents cognitive overload on paths longer than one hour.

  • Synchronizing e-learning and in-person sessions makes blended training more coherent and engaging.

📌 Example: Learning over time. You unlock one module per week. Your learners absorb the concepts without rushing ahead, and return regularly to the platform. - Retention reinforced through spacing.

📌 Example: Preparing for an in-person session. An introductory module opens before the class, the following ones after. Your learners arrive prepared and continue practicing afterwards. - Engagement and pedagogical continuity.

🗝️ Choose the Right Unlocking Mode

Four modes are available under the Content unlocking section of your publication. Here is how to choose:

Mode

Ideal for

Trigger

Manual lock

Keeping control module by module

You, at any time

Progressive unlocking

Encouraging completion step by step

The learner completes the previous module

Unlock after a delay

Spacing learning from enrollment

A defined delay per chapter

Unlock by date

Synchronizing with a calendar (cohort, class)

A specific date per chapter

✋ Lock Each Module Manually

You retain full control and open modules whenever you choose. Three actions are available:

  • Lock all modules at once using the dedicated button.

  • Unlock all modules at once using the dedicated button.

  • Lock or unlock a single module via the 🔒 icon on the module.

💡 Useful for manually managing a cohort or testing a path before publishing.

🪜 Unlock a Module Upon Completion of the Previous One

With progressive unlocking, a module opens as soon as the learner completes the previous one.

💡 This mode encourages learners to finish what they start: each completion becomes a mini-goal that unlocks the next step.

This unlocking mode only applies to the first time a learner goes through the modules. Once each module is finalized, a small checkmark appears to the right of the module and the learner is free to access the modules in their path in any order they choose.

⏳ Unlock a Module After a Delay

The learner accesses the chapter once the delay has elapsed. The countdown starts from their first time opening the publication.

To enable this mode:

  1. Divide your path into chapters: delays apply to the chapter, not the module.

  2. Choose the notification mode to alert your learners each time a chapter opens.

  3. Set a delay on each chapter using the delay selector.

💡 Leave the first chapter without a delay, otherwise your learners will be blocked on their first login.

📌 Example: a learner enrolled on April 8 at 2:10 PM, with a 2-day delay on their first chapter, will access it on April 10 at 2:10 PM.

📅 Unlock a Module on a Specific Date

Like the delay mode, date-based unlocking applies to chapters and requires a path divided into chapters. You also choose the notification mode.

To configure a date:

  1. Set the opening date on each chapter using the date selector.

  2. Leave the first chapter without a date to avoid blocking learners on their first login.

The learner accesses the chapter on the chosen date, at 8:00 AM in the timezone of the person who configured the date.

⚠️ If the learner is in a different timezone from the trainer, they will need to wait until it is 8:00 AM in the trainer's timezone.

📌 Example: a chapter scheduled for April 9 opens at 8:00 AM that day, in the trainer's timezone.

👀 The Learner Experience

Regardless of the mode chosen, a learner who tries to access locked content sees a warning indicating they cannot (yet) move on to the next module.

⚠️ If all modules in a chapter are locked, the positioning test and flashcard session for that chapter are also locked.

💡 From a pedagogical standpoint, this waiting message creates useful anticipation: the learner knows new content is coming soon, which maintains engagement between sessions.
