📢 Does your company have employees in multiple countries? Or are you aiming to reach a wide audience with your training courses? If so, you need to plan the creation of your e-learning content in multiple languages.
If you have already developed multilingual training, you know how complex it can be to localise content in several languages. The XLIFF format makes translation quick and efficient. We'll explain everything in this article.
🔎 What is XLIFF?
XLIFF is an industry-standard translation format that allows you to export your content in one language, easily translate it into another, and then reintegrate it into Didask with a single click. It's a format widely used by professional translators.
💡 Tip: There are also many free tools available to translate XLIFF files containing your content into other languages (such as Smartcat).
🛠 How to translate your e-learning content with XLIFF
Let's break it down step by step and see how XLIFF can help you translate your courses into different languages.
1. Create a project in your primary language
The first step is to create your project and its content in your main language on Didask. For example, if your primary language is French, you would first create your project—in French.
2. Export the course as an XLIFF File
After creating your course content in your main language, the next step is to export it as an XLIFF file. Some authoring tools will enable you to do this successfully. Once the course is exported to an XLIFF file (usually in ZIP format), you need to provide the file to your translator.
Go to "Settings".
Then click on "Export in .xlf format".
3. Translate your course
After exporting the course to an .xliff file, the next step is to send it to your translator or use a specialised platform like Smartcat.
4. Import the translated file
After translating a course into one or more languages, you can easily reintegrate your text export into Didask. The .xliff file will automatically update all your course content in the new language within the Didask platform. The time saved is considerable!
Go to "Settings".
Choose the import language for your translation and click on "Import".
🎉 Your translation has been successfully imported!
⚠️ Note: If you decide to import a new translation file, all your existing content will be overwritten by the content of the new translation file.
