⏸️ Promote breaks and energy management

  • Plan regular breaks: Even for motivating activities, breaks are necessary to prevent mental fatigue, which reduces the ability to process information, make decisions, and maintain a good mood.

  • Integrate breaks into the schedule: Use visual reminders like post-its to ensure breaks aren’t skipped.

  • Don’t cut breaks if running late: Skipping breaks negatively affects efficiency, potentially causing more delays.

💡 Structure activities

  • Switch activities every 30 minutes: Attention wanes after 30 minutes. Alternate exercises or introduce a break to refresh focus.

  • Balance activity types: Alternate intense focus phases, collaborative tasks, or lighter activities while avoiding multitasking, which harms concentration.

  • Avoid marathon sessions: Opt for multiple half-day sessions spread out instead of full-day marathons to aid better assimilation and retention.

🎓 Reinforce learning

  • Offer regular practical exercises: The effort of recalling strengthens memory and consolidates learning.

  • Break down training objectives: Frequent feedback helps learners track progress and pinpoint mistakes more effectively.

  • Regularly alternate topics: Switching subjects improves memory by requiring learners to apply knowledge in various contexts.

🧠 Avoid cognitive overload

  • Stop when objectives are met: Adding unplanned activities can cause cognitive fatigue, reduce focus, and lead to demotivation.

🔂 Utilise spacing and repetition

  • Incorporate progressive reminders: Test knowledge the next day to reinforce learning through the effects of sleep, then gradually increase intervals (daily, weekly, monthly).

  • Adjust spacing based on the skill type: A few days may suffice for vocabulary, but complex concepts may require several weeks.

  • Offer a positioning test at the start: This identifies areas requiring revision and helps tailor learning paths.

🎯 Motivate learners with clear objectives

  • Set short-term goals: Ensure they are realistic, achievable, and focus on learning rather than performance.

  • Include rewards for success: Rewards help sustain engagement and motivation.
