🧩 How Does End-of-Module Training Reinforce Learning and Personalization?

Discover the benefits of end-of-module training and how it can help your learners retain what they have learned.

The end-of-module training allows each learner to consolidate their knowledge with personalized questions and feedback tailored to their context. The result: progressive validation of skills, increased engagement, and lasting learning.

📌 A common problem: moving from one module to another without verifying what has been learned

In many e-learning courses, learners move from one module to the next without really checking whether they have understood the key concepts. They think they have grasped the essentials, but have not had the opportunity to test their understanding in their own professional context.

As a result, learners accumulate unreliable knowledge without ensuring that they can actually apply it. They progress through the training without really consolidating what they have learned, at the risk of building their knowledge on uncertain foundations.

However, cognitive science research shows that the testing effect (i.e., actively retrieving information from memory) is one of the most powerful tools for reinforcing learning (Roediger & Butler, 2011). What's more, when this exercise is personalized and followed by constructive feedback, it promotes incremental and lasting learning.

🧠 Our solution: personalized end-of-module training

To meet this challenge, Didask offers end-of-module training integrated into the learning assistant. What is its purpose? To allow each learner to check their understanding and practice before continuing their journey.

At the end of each module, learners can:

  • Answer 2 to 7 personalized questions, tailored to their context (position, learning objective, industry),

  • Receive detailed feedback on each of their answers to identify their strengths and areas for improvement,

  • Ensure they have understood before building new knowledge on this foundation.

The designer retains control over the experience: they can make the training mandatory and set a fixed number of questions (with 3 options to choose from), or leave it optional, in which case the learner decides for themselves how many questions they want to answer.

🧪 A concrete use case: consolidating what you've learned before moving on

🎯 Camille is the HR manager at a small industrial company. She is taking a training course on the prevention of psychosocial risks.

She has just completed the first module, which focused on identifying weak signals. Before moving on to the next module on dealing with risky situations, the assistant offers her an end-of-module training session.

Camille chooses to answer five personalized questions. First question: “In your production workshop context, how could you spot a change in behavior in an operator?” She writes her answer based on what she has learned and her knowledge of the field.

The assistant analyzes her answer and provides feedback: it validates the relevant elements it has identified (unusual delays, isolation during breaks) and suggests other indicators she could monitor (decreased productivity, irritability during morning briefings). Camille notes these details, which enrich her understanding.

On the third question, she hesitates over the distinction between occasional stress and established psychosocial risk. The feedback helps her clarify this nuance, with a concrete example related to her sector. She leaves with a clearer vision, which she knows she can draw upon in her next on-site interviews.

At the end of the training, Camille feels ready to tackle the next module. She has tested her understanding, identified what she already knows, and filled in the gaps in her knowledge. She knows that what she has learned is solid and that she can build on it to progress.

👉 Thanks to the end-of-module training, Camille doesn't just go through the motions of her training: she consolidates what she has learned, practices formulating it, and receives feedback that helps her adjust her understanding before moving on.

✅ Expected benefits

Integrating end-of-module training into your training courses allows you to:

  1. Promote incremental learning by ensuring that each concept is understood before building on it.

  2. Increase learner engagement by offering them an active check of their understanding.

  3. Enhance personalization with questions tailored to each learner's job, industry, and objectives.

  4. Anchor knowledge in the long term, thanks to the testing effect and constructive feedback.

  5. Adapt the course to each profile, giving the designer the choice of making the training mandatory or optional.

🛠 How do I activate end-of-module training?

Step 1: activate the Learning Assistant in your project

⚠️ Only an administrator can activate the Learning Assistant from the administration panel.

Step 2: Configure the end-of-module training

  1. In your project, open the e-learning module to be configured

  2. Scroll down the module page to the “End-of-module training” option

  3. Check or uncheck this option to enable or disable it

Note: when the Learning Assistant is enabled, end-of-module training is enabled by default in your modules.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Will disabling the activity affect learning outcomes?

Can I make the activity optional instead of removing it completely?

When should I disable the end-of-module activity?

Disable the activity for:

  • Introductory or background modules that simply introduce a topic

  • Purely informational modules with no practical skills to develop

  • Transition modules between topic sections

  • Content that is already well understood by your target audience

When should I definitely keep the practice enabled?

Keep the practice enabled for:

  • Modules that teach complex or critical skills

  • Mandatory training related to compliance, safety, or regulations

  • Counterintuitive concepts or topics prone to frequent errors

  • Modules containing a lot of information to remember

  • Content where you generally observe difficulties in practical application
